IIL manufactures the vero cell culture rabies vaccine for use in human beings. We had set up a special plant for manufacturing this vaccine at Ooty in 1998 on request of the Government of India to ensure that the Country could phase out use of the older and unsafe sheep brain vaccine (also termed as the nerve tissue vaccine – NTV). This product is sold under the brand name “Abhayrab” through our network of “Abhay Clinics”, at a very economical price when compared to the brands of multinational companies. Incidentally, ours is the second company in the world to launch the purified vero cell rabies vaccine (PVRV).

The success of Abhayrab and Abhay Clinics has emboldened us to embark on building a new vaccine facility in Hyderabad to manufacture various other human vaccines such as Diphtheria, Pertussis, Tetanus, Recombinant Hepatitis B, Hepatitis A and Measles.
